What changes the price
- Number of views: a chest or belly series usually means two or three images.
- Sedation: a painful or wriggly dog may need it so the pictures are clear.
- A specialist's reading: some clinics send images to a board-certified radiologist for an extra fee.
- Emergency hours: after-hours x-rays usually cost more.
Dental x-rays are different
Dental x-rays are taken inside the mouth under general anesthesia, usually as part of a dental cleaning. See dog teeth cleaning cost.
Ask for a written estimate
An estimate lists each line, so you can compare two clinics fairly. Ask what is included, what could be added once your dog is under anesthesia or examined, and whether there is a lower-cost option the vet is comfortable with.

How we put this page together
We do not publish estimates. The figures above come only from readers, and we show a typical price once at least five people have reported one. Medical facts are from:
- AAHA, 2019 Dental Care Guidelines for Dogs and Cats. Checked October 25, 2026.
Prices change by region and clinic, so use these as a guide and ask your vet for an estimate.
